Understanding Dysport & Botox:

Botox and Dysport are popular cosmetic treatments that use botulinum toxin to temporarily reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines by relaxing the underlying muscles. This is a non-surgical solution for achieving smoother, more youthful-looking skin with minimal downtime.  They are Health Canada-approved and have been used safely for cosmetic and medical purposes for years.

How They Work:

Wrinkles develop due to a combination of factors, including aging, genetics, and environmental influences such as sun exposure, pollution, and smoking, which damage the skin’s structure and accelerate aging. As we age, the skin loses collagen and elastin, causing it to become thinner, drier, and less able to retain moisture. Repeated facial expressions, such as smiling, frowning, or squinting, lead to dynamic wrinkles that deepen over time.

Botox and Dysport target the muscles responsible for these facial expressions. When injected, they block nerve signals, causing the muscles to relax and resulting in smoother, more relaxed skin. You may start noticing results within 2-7 days, with the full effect appearing in up to two weeks. Results are temporary, typically lasting 3-4 months, and may last longer with repeated treatments.

Commonly Treated Areas:

● Forehead Lines: To smooth horizontal lines across the forehead.
● Frown Lines: Also known as "11 lines," these vertical lines between the eyebrows.
● Crows Feet: Fine lines and wrinkles around the outer corners of the eyes.
● Bunny Lines: Wrinkles that appear on the nose when you smile or scrunch your nose.
● Eyebrow Lift: To subtly lift the eyebrows and open up the eyes.
● Smile Lines (Nasolabial Folds): To soften lines that extend from the nose to the
corners of the mouth.
● Chin: To treat chin dimpling or a "pebbled" chin appearance.
● Jawline: Botox can be used to slim the jawline by relaxing the masseter muscles.
● Neck Bands: Botox can reduce the appearance of vertical neck bands caused by
muscle contractions.

Therapeutic Use:

● Chronic Migraine: Botox is used to prevent chronic migraines by reducing the
frequency and severity of headaches.
● Excessive Sweating (Hyperhidrosis): Botox can block the signals that activate sweat
glands, effectively treating excessive underarm, hand, or foot sweating.
● Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMJ): Botox can help alleviate jaw pain,
headaches, and muscle spasms related to TMJ by relaxing the jaw muscles.

Pre-Care Instructions For Botox and Dysport:

● Consultation:

○ Have a thorough consultation with one of our experienced practitioners to discuss your goals, any medical conditions, and medications you take.

● Avoid Blood Thinners:
○ Avoid medications that thin your blood (e.g., aspirin, ibuprofen, and vitamin E) for a few days prior to treatment to minimize bruising.
○ If you’re on prescribed blood thinners (e.g., warfarin, aspirin), consult with your doctor first or reach out to us for advice before stopping them

● Avoid Alcohol:
○ Refrain from drinking alcohol 24-48 hours before your procedure, as alcohol can increase the risk of bruising and swelling.

● No Skin Irritation:
○ Avoid harsh skin treatments like facials, chemical peels, or laser treatments at least 1-2 weeks before dermal fillers, as they can cause skin irritation.

● Discontinue Certain Skin Treatments:
○ If you’re using retinol, retinoids, or other skin treatments, stop using them for a few days before treatment.
● No Vaccinations or Infections:
○ Avoid getting vaccinations or having active skin infections near the injection site prior to your appointment.

● Stay Hydrated:
○ Drink an adequate amount of water before your appointment to ensure your skin is hydrated, which can improve the outcome.
○ Avoid fasting on the day of your appointment
